Background
While browsing the App Store for an app to help organize my closet, I found most to be too complex or confusing to use. To challenge myself and improve my UX skills, I decided to create a digital closet app as a personal project.
Teaming up with a developer, we were able to bring my ideas to life. With Clozzie, users can simplify their closet and easily create new outfits with their existing items.
❓ Problem
How might we make the task of digitizing and organizing a closet easier and more immersive?
🎯 Solution
A digital closet app that gives users the ability to efficiently catalog clothing items, organize their closet and create new outfits. Users can also quickly view all of their items and outfits in one place.

Design Iterations
As the product designer for this project, I worked closely with a developer who offered valuable feedback on the design from a technical standpoint.
🔎 Competitive Analysis Findings
To better understand the digital closet app landscape, I tested six apps (five direct competitors, one indirect) from the App Store and Play Store over the course of a week.
Most apps provided item cataloging and outfit creation features, but some were locked behind a premium plan, limiting their functionality.
Apps with extra features such as an in-app social network, outfit planner, or resale marketplace felt cluttered and overwhelming.
Apps using AI to automatically input clothing item details often mislabeled them, requiring users to manually re-enter it.
🌟 Version 1 MVP Designs
With the research findings in mind, the developer and I collaborated on the features and agreed to launch a simple MVP (minimum viable product) within a one-month timeline to gather user feedback.
To move quickly, I skipped sketching and went straight into creating wireframes (nearly 100!) before finalizing the Version 1 screens.

💬 User Feedback
Version 1 of Clozzie launched on the App Store and Play Store on November 9, 2023.
I invited friends and family to try out the app, conducting usability tests with five individuals to evaluate ease of use, interaction flow, and uncover any bugs or pain points.
I created an affinity map to better understand the feedback.
🌟 Version 2 Updates
Taking into consideration the usability testing insights, I made several improvements and feature updates to Version 2 of Clozzie.
✨ Account Creation
Before
Testers ran into account creation issues, like emails going to spam or undetected typos preventing verification.
After
We replaced the alert with a persistent toast showing the entered email and prompting users to check spam.
✨ Item Creation
Before
Testers said item categories were too vague, wanted more color options, and disliked required fields like brand.
After
We added more colors with multi-select, subcategories, and made all fields optional except for the category.
✨ Error Validation
Before
Testers noted image upload failures lacked feedback and there were no photo-taking tips.
After
We added a toast for upload errors, updated loading text after 10 seconds, and included a photo-taking guide.
📈 Measuring Success
Clozzie uses PostHog to monitor analytics. Prior to launch, we outlined the following as our goals.
50 Daily active users
5000 total user count
10 App Store ratings/reviews

🔮 The Future of Clozzie
Clozzie is a work in progress, so user feedback and suggestions will constantly be reviewed and considered. We plan to encourage users to leave reviews and ratings, as well as submitting feature requests.
